As the prior ones, round 5 started as usual with the multisensual replay of the official WCCD trailer. In this way the visually handicaped players can be advised of the starting signal acustically, the deaf players simultaneously by the visual presentation.
After a balanced condition the top match between Andrei Obodchuk and Alexander Balberov on table 1 ended with a remis. Consequently Obodchuk keeps ahead still beeing unbeaten. But as both FM Stanislav Babarykin and FM Jacek Stachanczyk won their matches there are three player currently heading the table. So the tournaments thrill remains.
The top seeded german player, Marco Sponheim, unfortunately lost his match against Aleksander Gerasimova (Russia) on table 3. Therefore he sank on position 17 in the ranking list. By holding position 12 the best german player after round 5 is Mohammadreza Ghadimi (ICCD).
Beside that Olga Gerasimova (Russia Deaf I) beeing the most succesful femal player managed to hold a remis against Marek Mackowiak (Poland).
One of the most impressive matches played the Moroccan Jamal Messala (Seeded on 69.) by gaining a small edge of 11th seeded Artur Kevorkuv, although not beeing able to press home that adventage. Caused by the situation of perpetual check the match ended up with splitting the point.
Another enjoyable game played the youngest participant Raphael Zimmer as he recieved three pawns in exchange for one knight. In the end that wasn´t still enough to conclude the game in his favour.
Nevertheless a couple of players took the opportunity to gain adventage of better seeded participants. Such as Gennady Andreev (ELO 1808) won over Alexey Petrov (ELO 2039).
Due to Michele Visco an Vincenzo Russo splitting the point, no player has to leave the championships without result.
Slight disputs were straightforwardly settled by the referees, even though the communication between the parties could not always considered to be uncomplicated. But in spite of that, or exactly because of that the championships are unique.
